Micropia is part of Artis Royal Zoo in Amsterdam where microbiology and microorganisms are in focus. Visitors can experience a mixture of real and virtual microbes. My involvement was from concept to end-production in many of the exhibits. One of my responsibilities was the “Tree of Life” which shows taxonomic data relations from the root of all life down to single species in a generative designed steel sculpture.
Another task was concept and design for the centerpiece of Micropia. It is an approx. 10 × 5 meter reactive monitor wall which communicates the astonishing size differences between different microbiological life forms. Visitors can collect microbes throughout the exhibition with a stamp card and then compare them on this big wall.
